(
April 2, 2004 - VENTURA, CA
) Ventura Raceway returns to
action on Saturday night April 17, at
5:00pm
with the return of one of its all time favorite classes, United State Auto Club
(USAC) full midgets. The Ventura
County Seaside Park Facility has not seen full midget racing for five years and
Saturday night’s event is eagerly anticipated by open wheel fans throughout
Southern California
. In addition to the USAC Midgets,
VRA 360 Sprints, and VRA Pony Stocks will invade the
1/5 mile Ventura Raceway bullring. All
the top drivers in each class will be there to keep the fans on the edge of
their seats from the opening heat race until the final Main Event is completed.
USAC Midgets have been the stepping stone to success for
such current star racers as Jeff Gordon, Tony Stewart, Ryan Newman, Kasey
Khane, Jason Leffler,
Mike Bliss, Sleepy Tripp, Billy Boat and several other drivers who now lead
NASCAR and other racing series. Most of these drivers raced at
Ventura
in the glory days of west coast midget racing in the 1990s.
Now a resurgence of midget racing is about to take off.
Ventura Raceway is proud to be a part of this.
As an additional entry, Cory Kruseman, the
2004 Chili Bowl champion, will be here to drive the Andy Bondio
entry, if schedule conflicts can be worked out.
VRA Sprint Cars are back from a one-week absence after
their event of April 3, when Will” the Thrill” Perkins took his first win of
2004. He will be back to go for two in a row over a stellar field of VRA Sprint
Car drivers led by point leader Tom Stansberry,
three time winner in 2004 Chris Tramel, Steve
Conrad, Kevin Kierce, Chris Wakim,
and all the other VRA Drivers that make this series one of the top 360 sprint
car series in the US. These drivers will be going for the glory in the 30-lap
feature event.
VRA Pony Stocks are back again this weekend to run their
fourth event of 2004. Last race
Andrew Greiman took the win over teammate David
Peterson to get his first win of 2004 and he will be going for two in a row this
Saturday. He will be going up against a full field of VRA Pony Stock drivers who
have only one thing in mind, don’t let Greiman get
two on a row.
