VENTURA, CA (March
29, 2004) Ventura Raceway
returns to action this Saturday night April 3, at 5:00pm at its Ventura County
Fairgrounds, Seaside Park Facility, with a full program of racing that includes
four of its favorite classes. VRA 360 Sprint Cars, VRA Senior Sprints, VRA Dwarf Cars and
IMCA Modifieds will invade the 1/5-mile bullring.
All the top drivers in each class will be there to keep the fans on the
edge of their seats from the opening heat race until the final Main Event is
completed.
VRA 360
Sprint Cars once again will headline the night of racing as the “Young Guns”
of VRA try to continue their domination of the 2004 series.
Last week, 21 year old Chris Tramel took his third win at Ventura in
2004. He has taken the point lead
once again and seems determined to keep it.
He will be challenged by last week’s heat race winners, 23 year old
Luis Espinoza, 17 year old Blake Miller, and 34 year old Shawn Kautz.
These young drivers all are going for the glory that a Main event victory
brings. The other drivers of VRA,
including 2003 champion Tom Stansberry, Kevin Kierce, Bill Welch, Larry Lloyd,
and the rest of the field will try to show these young drivers that they can win
as well. Last week’s race ran
green-white-checker with all starters taking the checkered flag after the wild 6
1/2 minute event. Both these
statistics are track records.
VRA
Senior Sprints saw a special event on March 20, when Dale Harwood took his first
ever Main event win after more than 20 years of competing in many forms of
racing action. This popular driver
will be back Saturday night to try to make it two in a row.
This week, 2003 series champion Ron Bach, 2002 series champion Wiley
Miller and a host of over 45 years old drivers will be going for their first win
of the new season. Saturday night
should see a continuation of the fine competition these drivers bring to
Ventura.
VRA
Dwarf Cars and IMCA Modifieds are also on the Saturday night card. In VRA Dwarf
cars, Mike Sweeney and Jeff Shelton will try to repeat their March 20 wins in
the Seniors and Pro Divisions respectively.
Sweeney has taken the first two senior division wins so far and goes for
three in a row Saturday night.
IMCA
Modifieds opened their 2004 season on March 13 and each successive night of
racing has produced the same outcome. Ventura
driver, Chris Tonoli, has dominated the class with three wins so far in 2004.
Can anyone beat him? Saturday
night will answer that question as the top drivers in the class try to end his
winning ways.
Ventura
Raceway is now starting each of its night’s of racing at 5:00pm.
This earlier start time allows families and fans to come out to the
races, enjoy exciting racing action and still be home in time to get a full
night’s rest. Front gates open to
spectators at 4:00pm.
Admission
prices for this exciting night of short track racing is: Adults: $14.00,
Senior/Military $11.00, Juniors and kids 12 and under free.
