1-WEEK PERRIS BACK-UP CREATES
"DOUBLEHEADER"
by Dick Jordan
|
APRIL 19, 2004...Saturday night's rainout at Perris (Calif.) Auto
Speedway has created a USAC "doubleheader" racing program at the
1/2-mile dirt oval this coming Saturday night (April 24), featuring the
Valvoline USAC/CRA Sprint Cars and USAC Western Midget Cars. Both series will
compete in 30-lap feature events.
The CRA Sprint Cars and California Ford Focus Midget Cars were slated to compete
at Perris before rains forced the program to be called. The Sprint Car portion
was reset for this Saturday, creating the twinbill.
Damion Gardner of Concord, Calif. is the Valvoline USAC/CRA point leader, 14
points ahead of Rip Williams, but they need to keep an eye on fifth-ranking Mike
Kirby, who has won both 2004 races at the PAS. Kirby is 45 points behind
Gardner.
Troy Rutherford and Cory Kruseman are other threats for victory at the PAS,
currently third and fourth in the standings, while Tony Jones, Jeremy Sherman,
Greg Bragg, Ricky Gaunt and Mike Spencer round out the "top-10" after
four events.
