(Albuquerque, NM -
Dec. 7, 2004) Third generation Sprint Car driver Jon Taylor from Albuquerque, New Mexico
was crowned New Mexico Motor Racing Association Champion for 2004 at their year
end banquet Saturday night at the Hilton Hotel in Albuquerque.
Jon is the son of Duane Taylor and grandson of Buddy Taylor.
Buddy Taylor was one of the biggest stars to come out of New Mexico in
the world of Sprint Car Racing. Buddy won 11 NMMRA titles as well as 2 Sprint
Car and 1 Midget title at Manzanita Speedway in Phoenix.
Sadly Buddy lost his life in a racing accident at Manzanita.
Jon’s dad Duane was also a very good Sprint Car driver winning 2 NMMRA
Championships during his career.
As the old saying goes “ The Apple doesn’t fall far from the tree
”. Jon has only been racing for
two years and won his first of what should be many titles.
Jon fought a year long battle with some very good drivers at six tracks
in 3 states, winning by a mere 3 points over the ever dangerous Tom Ball and 20
points over Grants N.M. hot shoe Bo Baker.
Taylor won 3 heat races and 2 main events this year and was consistently
in the top 5 with very few exceptions. Jon
won his first ever Main Event at Montezuma Speedway in Cortez Colorado then won
his second Main at Hollywood Hill Speedway on his 24th birthday.
The year did not go without incident as Taylor had two rollovers and 3
DNF’s on the year. Taylor also ran a Winged Sprint this year with a 7th
place finish.
Taylor drives an Avenger Chassis with an Anderson Machine Shop 360 Chevy. Taylor is sponsored by Anderson Automotive, Lucky Signs &
Stripes, Budlong Motorsports, Edwards Engines, Tradeworks & Supply,
Southwest Powder Coating, Action Hose, Gossett Brothers, Blaine Harvey, Kristin
Jaramillo,Grandma & Grandpa Dan and Duane Taylor. His pit crew consists of Duane Taylor, Kristin Jaramillo,
Blaine Harvey, Doug Branch and Michael Taylor.
Last but certainly not least are his Mom Sue and Grandma Pauline, two of
the nicest people in all of racing.
Taylor’s short term goals are to win back to back NMMRA Championships,
get a Winged Sprinter and get into a driver development program.
His long term goals are to finish in the top ten in every race, run both
Winged and Non-Winged Sprinters and become a multiple time Champion in NMMRA and
at Manzanita Speedway. Jon
ultimately wants to become a full time Professional Driver.
Jon is a very personable young man and is a credit to his family and
racing. Jon would be a great representative for any Sponsor or Team.
He is more than willing to attend any racing related functions with his
car to promote his sponsors and team. Anyone
interested in coming onboard with a great young driver can reach Jon at
505-294-5798 or 505-203-8408.
