Santa Maria, CA - June 5, 2004...The J.B. Dewar/Bandit Sprint Car
Series showed up with 26 cars Saturday night at Santa Maria Speedway. They were
joined by a 16 car Diamond Jewelry & Loan Street Stock field and 29 CDCRA
Dwarf Cars.
Danny Sheridan took 12 laps to catch and pass Hanford's Richard Harvay, Jr. for
the lead in the 30 lap Bandit "A" main event. Sheridan continued on to
the win which, combined with an earlier 8 lap heat race victory and fast time of
15.325 seconds, gave the Santa Maria driver a sweep for the night.
Kerman's Davey Pombo was second, followed by Jimmy Thompson of Grover Beach. A.J.
Burgin's fourth place gave the Kingsburg driver the Series point lead and Pombo
went to the top of the J.B. Dewar standings. Danny Olmstead, of Tracy, completed
the top-five. Other heat race winners were Greg Porte, of Atascadero, Burgin,
and Steve DeMott of Santa Maria. Daniel Hood claimed the
12 lap "B" main event.
Rick Wilkinson, of Paso Robles, took only 5 laps to overhaul Santa Maria's Elton
Shaffer for the lead in the 25 lap Street Stock feature. Shaffer held on for
second, with Nipomo's Kenny Kirkpatrick, Santa Maria's Tim Randolph and Arroyo
Grande's Charlie Dowdy next in line. Dowdy, Kirkpatrick and Santa Maria's Ian
Hunter won the 8 lap heat races. The victory was the second in as many weeks for
Wilkinson who won last Saturday's California Street Stock Championship 30 lap
main event.
CDCRA Dwarf Cars ran a pair of 20 lap main events, one for Pro division cars and
the other for the Senior division. Angel Figueroa, Rob Anderson and Jason
Tomlinson filled the top-three spots in the Pro feature with Figueroa and Brian
Saxton scoring wins in 8 lap heat races. Gary Ebeling, Ross Millar and Mike Van
Acker came out on top in the Senior division with Van Acker and Walt Boyd
winning the heats.
Next Saturday night Century 21 Hometown Realty Late Model Stocks, Christianson
Chevrolet Mini Stocks, Crossroads Community Church Factory Stocks and Campus
Motorsports Factory Stocks will provide the excitement. The annual Mid-State
Bank & Trust Nickel Scramble for kids under 42 inches tall will also be
held. Ticket prices will be: $13.00 for adults, $11.00 for seniors (65+) and
$3.00 for children 6 to 12. The Speedway is located 1/4-mile north of the
