Santa Maria, CA - May 8, 2004...J.B. Dewar/Bandit Sprint Cars, Diamond
Jewelry & Loan Street Stocks and CDCRA Dwarf Cars provided the racing action
Saturday night at Santa Maria Speedway.
Strong winds on the central coast took the moisture out of the clay oval
making driving conditions treacherous. Santa Maria's Danny Sheridan set fast
time of 16.238 seconds but was taken out of the 30-lap main event in a four car
pile-up on the front chute, one of three red flag sessions that caused three
restarts to the event, taking 30 minutes, before an 8 minute flag-to-flag run.
When the checkers finally fell, Richard Harvey, Jr., of Hanford, had led all the
way to score his first victory of the season. Fresno's John Burnett was second
and Jimmy Thompson, of Grover Beach, third. Kerman's Davey Pombo and Kingsburg's
A.J. Burgin filled out the top-five. Burnett, Santa Maria's Steve DeMott and
Evan Suggs, of Scotts Valley, won the 8 lap heat races.
Tim Randolph, of Santa Maria, won his first 25-lap Street Stock feature of
the season, out dueling Nipomo drivers Chad Weber and Kenny Kirkpatrick for the
win. Last week's winner Willy Oathout, of Nipomo, was fourth and Arroyo Grande's
Charlie Dowdy fifth. Randolph, Weber and Tim Breshears, of Santa Maria, captured
8 lap heat races.
CDCRA Dwarf Cars showed up with 12 Senior competitors and 16 Pros. Gary
Ebeling, Mike Van Acker and Walter Boyd were the top-three in the 20 lap Senior
feature with Ebeling and Van Acker taking the 8 lap heats. Rob Anderson, Brian
Saxton and Jason Tomlinson topped the Pro division drivers with Saxton and Angel
Figueroa winning the heats.
Next Saturday will be an all stock car night featuring Century 21 Hometown
Realty Late Model Stocks, Christianson Chevrolet Mini Stocks and Crossroads
Community Church Factory Stocks. Admission prices reduce to $13.00 for adults,
$11.00 for seniors (65+) and $3.00 for children 6 to 12. The Speedway is
1/4-mile north of the 101/166 interchange on Hutton Road. They're on the
