DAVE DARLAND ADDS TULSA TO HIS VICTORY RESUME
by Norm Bogan

TULSA, OK, AUGUST 18, 2004 - Lincoln, Indiana's Dave Darland claimed his first sprint car victory in Oklahoma aboard the #56 Pruett Group, Raney Racing Engines, TCR on Tulsa Speedway's quick three-eighths mile clay oval.  It was the maiden victory for the Pruett Group in SCRA/NWWC competition, crowning this year's Napa Auto Parts/Auto Trader Magazine Non Wing World Championship tour's fifth different winner.

Darland said that his car was tight early in the evening, on the tackier track, but as the race progressed and became more of a dry slick surface, it came to his chassis setup and he was able to best early leader, Tony Elliott, whose car developed a push, allowing Darland to slip by on the bottom and assume the point.

Twenty-seven entries queued up for this Wednesday night show, before a good crowd, viewing the non-wing sprints on Tulsa Speedway for the first time since 1988.   Among the visitors testing the non-wing waters were Gary Wright of Hooks, Texas, Zach Chappell of Talala, Oklahoma and Sean Walden from Bentonville, Arkansas and several regular winged warriors from the Tulsa area.  In addition to Darland and Elliott, other mid-western competitors included Bud Kaeding, Levi Jones and Matt Neely.

The SCRA traveling group now moves to the final venue of the tour at Lakeside Speedway in Kansas City, Kansas.  Programs scheduled are a Media event on Thursday, including the Annual Jerry Weld Classic Invitational Race, which will admit all fans free of charge for a preview of the thrills on tap for Friday and Saturday evenings.  Friday's show will transfer the four top finishers into the $10,000.00 to win Saturday night feature, with all others competing in the early Saturday events leading up to the Tour Finale.
