NWWC STOP IN MISSOURI CANCELLED
by Robert Mayson
|
LAKEWOOD, CA, JULY 31, 2004 - After more than a week of
speculation, Sprint
Car Racing Association President Ron Shuman confirmed this week that
the August
18th Non-Wing World Championship (NWWC) event scheduled at Lake of
the Ozark
Speedway (Eldon, MO) has been cancelled.
Earlier in the week, it appeared that the race was going to remain
on the SCRA schedule after several of the top non-winged drivers in
the country confirmed that they were planning to participate in the
race. Unfortunately, Lake of the Ozark Speedway promoters had
recently suffered a loss during a mid-week visit from another
traveling sprint car group and feared that another loss this soon
could cause financial hardship for the new facility.
Even though Shuman was very disappointed over the cancellation, he
was optimistic that a deal with another track for the same date
would be finalized within the next couple of days.
Shuman's 6th Annual Non-Wing World Championship tour will kickoff on
August 6th and 7th at Hollywood Hills Speedway in San Felipe, New
Mexico. The final night of the Hollywood Hills race will be
video taped and aired at later time on the Outdoor Channel.
