(September 22,
2004) The successful
combination of Dave Darland and Alex Pruett Racing will reunite with hopes of
winning one of the richest weekend purses in Sprint Car racing. The last time
this pair teamed up Darland won the NWWC race at Tulsa Speedway in the Alex
Pruett/Jimmy May /Raney Racing #56 and the seventeen year old team owner/driver,
Alex Pruett finished 11th that night after qualifying 3rd quick in a star
studded field.
Dave Darland is a four time USAC Champion and one of only three drivers to win
the USAC Triple Crown, securing a championship in each of the USAC Midget,
Silver Crown and Sprint Car Series. Darland’s last USAC Championship came in
2002 in the Midget Series. “Dave Darland is a class act and one of the most
versatile and successful drivers in USAC history,” says Steve Pruett of Pruett
Group, a primary sponsor of Alex Pruett Racing.
Darland is looking forward to teaming with Jimmy May after their win at Tulsa.
“Jimmy gave me a great car at Tulsa and I am confident he knows the set-ups
for the tracks out West”, Darland said. Steve Pruett continued, “thanks to
Jimmy May our race team has quickly become a recognized force on a National
level.”
Alex Pruett returns to his home turf, Perris Auto Speedway, to prepare for the
Oval Nationals, after a successful summer of racing 410 Sprint cars in Indiana
and throughout the Midwest. Thanks to reliable Raney engine power, Alex competed
in nearly 30 consecutive main events in 12 weeks with several top 10 finishes in
tough Indiana and National fields. Alex Pruett said “it is a great opportunity
and learning experience for a young driver as myself to be able to team with
Dave Darland at such a major event.”
Alex Pruett Racing is also sponsored by For-Teens, a not for profit organization
to help parents of at-risk teens. The For-Teens website when fully completed
will guide parents and teens to non-biased sources of help in dealing with the
many issues that face today’s teens. Alex’s Indiana effort is supported by
NAMARS and USAC midget top gun, A.J. Felker and his parents, Bill and Sandy, who
have been instrumental in the development of Alex as a driver and Alex Pruett
Racing.
