(NOVEMBER
14, 2004, PERRIS, CA) The field continues to get tougher for this
Saturday’s Valvoline USAC/CRA Sprint Car 8th Annual Jack Kindoll Classic at
Perris Auto Speedway. Two-time Oval Nationals Champion Cory Kruseman, 1999 USAC
National Sprint Car Champion Dave Darland and Indiana star John Stanbrough have
all entered the season finale, which will conclude with a 50-lap main event.
Kruseman, 34 of Ventura, won his second straight Oval Nationals at The PAS on
October 30th driving for NASCAR star Tony Stewart. The veteran driver has won
three (1998, 2000, 2001) of the previous seven Kindoll Classics. Kruseman will
be behind the wheel of Mark Alexander’s silver #4 which he drove to four
victories on the tough USAC/CRA tour in 2004. The 2002 Indiana Sprint Week
champion was third in USAC National Sprint Car points this season and is
currently ranked seventh in USAC/CRA.
Lincoln, Indiana’s Darland, who turned 38 in September, will be driving for
Southern California car owner Dwight Cheney. Darland won the USAC/CRA Sokola
Classic preliminary main event at Manzanita Speedway on March 19th. The two-time
USAC National Midget champion (2001 & 2002) thrilled the crowd at The PAS
during the Oval Nationals coming from the B Main all the way to 5th in the
50-lap A main before a late race tangle relegated him to 10th at the checkered
flag. Darland ended up seventh in 2004 USAC National Sprint Car Series points,
third in the USAC Silver Crown standings and is seventh on the USAC National
Midget point blotter with two races to go.
Stanbrough, who resides in Jamestown, Indiana, had a career best eighth place
finish in the USAC National Sprint Car standings in 2004. The 37 year-old
veteran had two National wins in 2004 (Dixie Speedway in Woodstock, Georgia and
Lawrenceburg Indiana Speedway) bringing his career total to 9 National wins.
Stanbrough, who finished 11th at the Oval Nationals, will be driving the blue
#11 owned by Anne Wilkerson on Saturday night.
The visitors will be joined by Levi Jones of Illinois and Northern California
teenager Brad Sweet and they take on a huge contingent of USAC/CRA stars
including point leader and inaugural (1997) Kindoll Classic champion Rip
Williams of Yorba Linda, Concord’s Damion Gardner, Mike Kirby from Torrance,
Ojai’s Troy Rutherford, Greg Bragg of Visalia, 2002 Kindoll Classic champ
Steve Ostling of Corona (Ostling will be celebrating his 42nd birthday on
Saturday), Temecula’s Mike Spencer and Tony Jones of Corona.
Spectator gates will open at 5:00 PM.
Perris Auto Speedway is conveniently located on the Lake Perris Fairgrounds,
home of the Southern California Fair, approximately one hour east of Los
Angeles. Take the 215 Freeway, exit at the Ramona Expressway and go east two and
a half miles to the fairgrounds.
