(SEPTEMBER 27, 2004, PERRIS, CA) Another group of
open wheel superstars has entered the 9th Annual Budweiser Oval Nationals,
presented by Temecula Valley Pipe & Supply, at Perris Auto Speedway on
October 28th, 29th and 30th.
Three former Oval Nationals Champions head the group. 1997 winner Rip Williams
of Yorba Linda, California, 1999 champ Rickie Gaunt of Torrance, California and
Campbell, California native Bud Kaeding who won the Oval Nationals crown in 2001
and 2002.
Williams, the current Valvoline USAC/CRA Series point leader, will be driving
the familiar black #3 owned by Sharon Jory and he will have a teammate for the
Oval Nationals. Norwalk, California’s Mike English, a former main event winner
at The PAS and a former teammate of Williams on the Jory team, will be back on
board driving the #3X car.
Jamestown, Indiana’s Jon Stanbrough, the winner of the 1994, 2003 & 2004
Robbie Stanley Classic and the 2002 Tony Hulman Classic, has entered and will be
driving for R&B Racing.
Castro Valley, California’s Rick Williams, who finished fifth in the Valvoline
USAC/CRA race at King’s Speedway in Hanford on August 14th and who was 8th at
The PAS on September 11th, has entered his own #6X car.
The Budweiser Oval Nationals is a little more than four weeks away. It features
one of the richest purses in sprint car racing with over $100,000.00 up for
grabs. The winner of the 50-lap finale on October 30th will take home
$30,000.00.
