MIKE KIRBY INCLUDED IN LATEST OVAL
NATIONALS ENTRIES!

(SEPTEMBER 20, 2004, PERRIS, CA) The latest group of entries for the
October 28th, 29th and 30th Budweiser Oval Nationals, presented by Temecula
Valley Pipe & Supply at Perris Auto Speedway, is headed by 1993 CRA Champion
Mike Kirby.
Kirby is considered by many to be one of the pre-race favorites. Driving for
veteran car owner Glen Crossno, the 40-year old racer from Torrance, California
is currently second in Valvoline USAC/CRA points and has won five main events
this year. Four of his victories have come at The PAS. The other came at the
Ventura Raceway on September 4th. Kirby, 40, had his best finishes at in the
Oval Nationals in 1997 when he finished second to Rip Williams and in 2000 when
he finished second to Tony Jones.
Other entries that recently arrived are from Midwest drivers John Scott &
Mat Neely, Valvoline USAC/CRA regulars Bobby Cody of Costa Mesa, Gary W. Howard
of Fontana, rookie “Dynamite David” Cardey of Riverside, Rick Ziehl of Las
Cruces, New Mexico and A.J. Reyer from San Diego.
Scott, who moved from Hesperia, California to Pittsboro, Indiana to compete in
the USAC National Sprint Car Series two years ago, won his first ever sprint car
main event at The PAS on September 13, 1997. He is one of few drivers to be able
to claim that he has made the main event at every single Oval Nationals. His
best finishes came in 2000 when he took fifth and 2001 when he claimed sixth. He
is currently ranked 12th in USAC National Sprint Car points.
Howard, who lives in Fontana, California, has been a fixture on the Southern
California open wheel-racing scene for over 20 years. Driving for Jack Keene,
Howard is 18th in the Valvoline USAC/CRA point standings and has two-fast times
this season.
Neely is a 21-year old from Robinson, Illinois. In 2003 he was voted National
Non Winged Sprint Car Rookie of the Year in a poll conducted by the National
Sprint Car Hall of Fame.
Cody is enjoying his best ever season in sprint cars and is eighth in Valvoline
USAC/CRA points. He recently posted back-to-back sixth place finishes at Ventura
and The PAS.
Ziehl, 37, won the 2003 USAC Southwest Sprint Car Championship and the 1996 ASCS
360 Winged Sprint Car championship. He drives for Ben and Linda Lancaster on the
Valvoline USAC/CRA tour where he sits 15th in points.
Cardey is the all-time leading main event winner in Lightning Sprint Car racing
at The PAS. He is currently ranked 17th in Valvoline USAC/CRA points. In
addition to the Valvoline USAC/CRA Series, he also competes in the NASCAR West
and Jim Russell Series.’ Reyer, a 19-year old college student, has competed at
The PAS in full size sprint cars as well as lightning sprints.
The Budweiser Oval Nationals is one of the richest sprint car events in the
world with a purse of more than $100,000.00. The winner of the 50-lap finale on
October 30th will take home $30,000.00.
