ADAM MITCHELL AND MIKE SPENCER RETURN
TO VALVOLINE USAC/CRA SERIES SATURDAY AT PERRIS!
|
(MAY 27, 2004, PERRIS, CA) Two top drivers, Adam Mitchell and Mike
Spencer, will be returning to action in the Valvoline USAC/CRA Sprint Car Series
when Temecula Valley Pipe & Supply and Vista Paint present the annual 50-lap
Salute to Indy at Perris Auto Speedway this Saturday night.
Mitchell, a 33-year old veteran of 12 seasons, has been out since destroying a
car in a devastating crash while running in the top ten during the April 24th
main event at The PAS. The week prior to that, the Escondido resident and former
Carlsbad Speedway Cart Champion was running in the top five in the main event
until a late race restart dropped him to seventh at the Eddie Ramirez checkered
flag.
Spencer, a 22-year old college senior from Temecula, missed last week’s
Valvoline USAC/CRA event as he was driving for noted Midwest car owner Bill
Biddle in the USAC National Sprint Car Series at Terre Haute, Indiana. Regarded
as one of the best young sprint car talents in the nation, Spencer had engine
problems in Indiana and did not get to race. The son of 1976 CRA co-rookie of
the year Mike Spencer Sr., the youngster’s best finishes in the Valvoline
USAC/CRA Series is a pair of sixths (Manzanita Speedway on March 20th and at
Perris on April 10th).
Mitchell and Spencer will have their work cut out for them when they get to The
PAS on Saturday as the star studded entry list includes past PAS main event
winners Troy Rutherford of Ojai and Concord’s Damion Gardner, 2000 Oval
Nationals Champion Tony Jones of Corona, Torrance’s Mike Kirby, who won the
1993 CRA Championship, current point leader Rip Williams of Yorba Linda, 2001
Western World Sprint Car Champion Jeremy Sherman of Phoenix, 2002 Kindoll Class
Champion Steve Ostling of Corona and ex-Midget stars Gary W. Howard of Fontana
and Long Beach’s Jordan Hermansador.
Spectator gates will open at 5:00 PM on Saturday.
Perris Auto Speedway is conveniently located on the Lake Perris Fairgrounds,
home of the Southern California Fair, approximately one hour east of Los
Angeles. Take the 215 Freeway, exit at the Ramona Expressway and go east two and
a half miles to the fairgrounds.
