(MAY 26, 2004, PERRIS, CA) Another late entry for this Saturday’s
Salute to Indy Valvoline USAC/CRA Sprint Car race at Perris Auto Speedway is
exciting Phoenix, Arizona star Jeremy Sherman.
Sherman, 27, will be behind the wheel of Anne Wilkerson’s National Cold
Storage/Shaver Specialties bright blue #11. The 1995 USAC Western Midget Rookie
of the Year, Sherman last drove the Wilkerson entry at The PAS on April 10th
when he was ninth fast qualifier, won his heat and placed thirteenth in the
30-lap main event.
Sherman is well known in the sprint car world for his breathtaking charges
through the pack. His best appearance at The PAS thus far in 2004 came on April
24th when he guided Buzz Shoemaker’s #0 from fourteenth to third in the main.
Of course, no one can forget the job he did at last seasons Budweiser Oval
Nationals when he finished second after starting 21st. He passed 19 cars on the
night including the likes of superstars J.J. Yeley, Brent & Bud Kaeding,
Damion Gardner, Richard “The Gasman” Griffin, Cary Faas, Jac Haudenschild,
John Scott, Troy Rutherford, Tracey Hines, Tony Elliott, Levi Jones and Josh
Wise. Earlier this year Sherman thrilled his hometown fans by starting
seventeenth and finishing second to Cory Kruseman at the Gary Sokola Classic at
Phoenix’ Manzanita Speedway.
This Saturday Sherman, who is seventh in the Valvoline USAC/CRA point standings
despite not having a steady ride, joins an already star studded field that
includes Rutherford, Tony Jones, point leader Rip Williams, Mike Kirby, Damion
Gardner, Brian Venard, Greg Bragg, Steve Ostling and Ventura's fast qualifier
Gary W. Howard.
Saturday’s race, like all Valvoline USAC/CRA races at The PAS, is presented by
longtime open wheel racing supporters Temecula Valley Pipe & Supply and
Vista Paint.
Spectator gates will open at 5:00 PM on Saturday.
