BUD KAEDING FLYING IN TO CHALLENGE WEST COASTS BEST AT THE PAS!

(APRIL 13, 2004, PERRIS, CA) For fans wanting to see the best 410 sprint car drivers on the West Coast, there is only one place to go this Saturday night and that place is Perris Auto Speedway where Temecula Valley Pipe & Supply and Vista Paint will present the Hoffy Hot Dog Dash featuring the Valvoline USAC/CRA Sprint Cars and the USAC Ford Focus Midgets.

Superstars such as last week’s winner Mike Kirby, Tony Jones, Troy Rutherford, Rip Williams, Steve Ostling and Damion Gardner will all be racing at The PAS on Saturday and they will be facing off against another giant in the sport. Third generation champion Bud Kaeding will be flying in from Indiana to drive for legendary car owner Harlan Willis in the Mike Nigh tuned #45. Willis and Nigh teamed with Cory Kruseman and dominated racing at The PAS in 2001 with 12 main event victories.

A native of Campbell, California, Kaeding is no stranger to Perris fans. He won the prestigious Oval Nationals at The PAS in 2001 and 2002. In the 2003 edition of the Oval Nationals last November, Kaeding finished on the podium for the third consecutive year with a third place finish.

The talented 24-year old was fourth in last year’s USAC National Sprint Car standings. In 2002, a devastating flip, after setting fast time at the annual Tony Hulman Classic at Terre Haute, Indiana, put the young star on the shelf for much of the season. However, when he climbed back into the cockpit, he won several races including the sprint car portion of the 4-Crown Nationals at Ohio’s high-banked Eldora Speedway and the Oval Nationals.

Kaeding first rose to prominence in 1999 when he won seven main events in 17 starts and the USAC Western Sprint Car Championship. In addition, he won the Rookie of the Year award in the series. One year later, he won the Rookie of the Year award in the tough USAC National Sprint Car Series after finishing seventh in the point standings.

After Saturday’s final checkered flag, Kaeding will have two more weekend races on his hands. The first will be a race to the airport where he will catch a red-eye flight back to Indiana to race in Sunday afternoon’s USAC National Sprint Car Series opener at Anderson Speedway.

Kaeding is the grandson of Howard Kaeding, a two-time champion (1973 & 1974) and the all time leading main event winner (112) at the now defunct San Jose Speedway. The patriarch of the family once astounded the racing world when he won the San Jose main event 17 weeks in a row!

Bud’s father Brent is considered by any to be the greatest sprint car driver in Northern California history. Still active today, Brent is the defending Golden State Challenge Series champion and won the main last Saturday night in Antioch. All told, Brent has won over 25 championships including 13 with the now defunct NARC tour and 12 in the Golden State Challenge Series.

In addition to his grandfather and father, Bud’s brother Tim is a racing champion as well. He won the 2002 Golden State Challenge Series title by a mere two points over father Brent.

Spectator gates will open at 5:00 PM on Saturday.Advance tickets are on sale now by calling 1-800-595-4849, (909) 940-0134 or on the Internet at www.tix.com or www.perrisautospeedway.com.

Perris Auto Speedway is conveniently located on the Lake Perris Fairgrounds, home of the Southern California Fair, approximately one hour east of Los Angeles. Take the 215 Freeway, exit at the Ramona Expressway and go east two and a half miles to the fairgrounds.
