(APRIL 2, 2004, PERRIS, CA)
Perris Auto Speedway fans and officials are eagerly looking forward to the
return of Major League Sprint Car racing featuring the best 410 traditional
sprint car drivers on the West Coast when the Valvoline USAC/CRA Sprint Car
Series comes back to the ultra modern facility on April 10th and
April 17th.
The first race in the brand new
series took place at The PAS on March 6th.
Promoter Don Kazarian was more than pleased with the initial event.
“We are very happy with the results of the first USAC/CRA race.
We received positive feedback from the attending fans.
The USAC name has brought increased recognition to the West Coast drivers
and the track.” The veteran
promoter went on to say, “We have received a lot of phone calls from fans that
heard we are now running USAC. Many
of them have never been here before, but they recognize the USAC brand name and
they want to come check us out.”
In addition to the USAC name,
the CRA moniker is drawing a lot of attention from fans that have not been to
the races in years. “We expect to
see a lot of them come out to see what is going on,” enthused Kazarian.
“We think they will like what they see.
We had a top notch field of cars for the first race and we expect to see
even more cars and stars at upcoming events.”
Speaking of CRA, 1993 Champion
Mike Kirby, who won the season opener, will be back behind the wheel of Glenn
Crossno’s bright red TCR when the series rolls back into The PAS for the two
Saturday night events. Among the
Torrance, California superstar’s chief opposition in the two races will be
Concord’s Damion Gardner, Rip Williams of Yorba Linda, Tony Jones of Orange
and Ojai’s Troy Rutherford.
Since the season opener at The
PAS on March 6th, the series traveled to the famous Manzanita
Speedway in Phoenix, Arizona for the annual Gary Sokola Classic two weeks ago.
Indiana’s Dave Darland won the preliminary main event on Friday and
Ventura’s Cory Kruseman came home victorious in the finale of the prestigious
race on the big half-mile on Saturday. This
Saturday night, the Valvoline USAC/CRA Sprint Car Series brings traditional 410
Sprint Car racing back to King’s Speedway in Hanford, California for the first
time since 1996.
Spectator gates at The PAS will
open at 5:00 PM on the 10th and the 17th.
