(MARCH
15, 2004, PERRIS, CA) Ventura’s
Chris Tramel will try to extend his winning streak to three races when the
Ventura Racing Association Sprint Car Series visits Perris Auto Speedway for the
Lake Chevrolet Challenge Cup on Saturday night.
Joining the VRA drivers on the doubleheader program will be the fast
PASSCAR Super Stocks.
Tramel
scored the first sprint car win of his career at the Ventura Raceway season
opener on March 5th. He
backed that up last Saturday night with another impressive victory at the
seaside oval. This Saturday, he
will take his talents to The PAS, a track where his cousin, Cory Kruseman, has
scored several sprint car wins including a $30,000.00 victory at last year’s
Oval Nationals.
Even
though he is only 21, Tramel, the 2002 VRA Rookie of the Year, has raced in
several different classes in his career and thus earned the nickname “Ready To
Run.” Before jumping into VRA
Sprint Cars, Tramel has had seat time in Modifieds, Pony Stocks, Street Stocks
and Figure 8 Cars.
Tramel’s
main competition on Saturday may come from Bakersfield’s Tom Stansberry.
The defending VRA Champion, Stansberry has finished second to Tramel in
the season’s first two races. Stansberry,
who graduated with a BS in Business from Cal State Bakersfield in 2000, came
from 15th starting position to second at the season opener.
Last week, a lap 12 tangle sent him to the back (16th) and he
came all the way back to second in just 18 laps!
Other
top VRA stars expected to enter Saturday’s race include second generation
driver Kevin Kierce of Tarzana, Chris Wakim of Simi Valley and Will “The
Thrill” Perkins of Victorville. Kierce,
the 1999 Ventura Raceway IMCA Sprint Car Champion, is the son of 1963 CRA Rookie
of the Year Jim Kierce. 41-year old
Wakim made VRA history by winning the first ever VRA race away from Ventura (at
The PAS) in August of 2002. Perkins,
who won the final 2003 VRA race of the year, is a fan favorite wherever he goes.
The veteran driver is known for his spectacular rim riding efforts and
charges from the back of the pack.
Linny
“The Colton Cowboy” White will be looking for his second win a row in the
popular PASSCAR Super Stock class on Saturday night.
White, who was the 2003 Stock Pony champion at Orange Show Speedway,
defeated teammate Mike Hixson (Murrieta) and Glen Avon’s John Caley in the
season opener two weeks ago. Corona’s
Terry Hershberger, the 2003 Super Stock Champ, ended up 11th in the
season opener.
Spectator
gates will open at 5:00 PM on Saturday.
