November
12 & 13 will bring a new roar to the Nevada desert, something missing since
the atomic tests back in the fifties. Pahrump Valley Speedway, located midway
between Death Valley and Frenchman Flat, wants to test their quarter-mile,
high-banked, clay track with sprint car action, as of now, never seen at this
venue. By the way, MUFFLERS NOT REQUIRED!
Meetings between several VRA car owners and track management got the ball
rolling and soon an outpouring of donations from supportive fans had produced
over $5000.00 in prize monies. Additionally, a number of items have been donated
for a drawing to be held among the participants. Any cash donations or items for
the drawing will be accepted up through race time.
There will be three divisions racing, consisting of 360 Open, 360 Senior (over
45) and 410. Bring you own fuel and the 360 cars will require the VRA right rear
tire. VRA regulars and any others who have extra VRA right rear tires are
encouraged to bring them, hopefully to cover all entrants in the field. On
Friday, November 12, there will be a practice from 3:00 to 7:00. On Saturday,
the pits open at 12 Noon with a driver’s meeting at 2:00 and the first event
at 3:00.
Trophies will be awarded to the 1st, 2nd & 3rd place finishers in each of
the three divisions. Prize money will be divided equally among all cars
participating to encourage racers to tow out to Pahrump. Remember, all those in
attendance can brag that they participated in the Inaugural Sprint Car Race at
Pahrump.
There are several hotels offering racer’s rates, as well as camping will be
allowed in the pit area, which has restrooms and showers.
This year-end show is a test to see if fans and racers would support sprint car
racing at Pahrump on a periodic basis. The racing is open to sprints from
throughout the Western United States. Wings must be removed, this is traditional
sprint car racing.
