Banquet Scheduled to Honor Orland Raceway Champs |

(OCTOBER 26, 2004 - ORLAND, CA) The annual Awards Banquet and Driver
Appreciation Night for Orland Raceway has been scheduled for Saturday, January
15th in the Arts and Crafts Building at the Glenn County Fairgrounds. Promoters
have hired Pat 'n Larry's Catering of Chico to provide their excellent Tri-Tip
dinner for the event. Tickets are $25.00 per person. Tickets must be purchased
by Friday, December 31st and will not be sold at the door. Unlike previous
seasons, tickets will be mailed to participants prior to the event, so early
ticket purchase is required. The Wix Filters Sprint Car Championship Series will pay a total of $4,000.00 in prize money to the division's top ten in points. Wix Filters donated $2,200.00 toward the point fund prize money, which will bring Sprint Champion Tony Richards' 2004 total earnings to over $6,000.00. Ed Butterfield will add $900.00 to his overall season winnings for his second place finish in the division. All other divisions will share in the festivities and point fund money will be awarded in the Pure Stocks, Mini Trucks, Mini Stocks and Mini Modified divisions which participated weekly at the Raceway. Finishing first through fifth for the Wix Filters Sprint Championship Series were Tony Richards of Paradise with 1,140 points, Ed Butterfield from Oroville (1,108), Rob Worthington of Willows (955), Adam Schroer of Orland (908) and Josh Tucker from Willows with 725 points. Sixth through tenth place finishers were Josh Jacobo of Willows, Chris Webber of Palo Cedro, David Neutze of Cottonwood, John Orsua from Orland and Don Emery of Orland. In the Pure Stock division, Chico's Wes Dinsmore was the Champion for the second straight year, garnering 1,149 points. Steve Martin of Orland finished in second with 1,024 points. Third was Willows' Rich Chapman with 919 points. John Kirkpatrick of Orland finished in fourth with 792 points and Lee Imhoff of Willows took the fifth position with 765 points. Finishing sixth through tenth were Earl Adams of Paradise, Jess Garland from Orland, Talura Seabourne of Paradise, Kevin Ward from Paradise and John Embrey of Orland. Orland's Phil Metz outran the field of Mini Trucks to take his first championship title with 1,034 points. Defending track champion Mario Romano finished in second with 1,005 points. Orland's Olin Crain took third with 998; Brandon Miller finished fourth with 919; Buddy Skaggs rounded out the top five with 882 points for the season. Corning's Michael Ray finished sixth. Tony Billotti (Corning) placed seventh. 80-year-old Ed Dearing took the eighth position followed by Leonard Burrows of Elk Creek and Steve Small of Palermo finishing ninth and tenth respectively. Ken Lewis took the Mini Stock Championship for the third time at Orland Raceway. Ken's previous titles were earned in 1998 and 2000. Lewis earned a total of 1,086 points to gain the '04 championship. Finishing in second is Blane Baker of Yuba City with 922 points. Oroville's Randi Small gathered 906 points for a third place finish. Randi is the only lady driver to receive such an honor for the season. In fourth is Orland's Jeff Bennett with 811 points, followed by Chico's Larry Button with 741. Sixth through tenth positions include Lisa Shelby (Yuba City), Junior Kirkpatrick (Santa Clara), Chris Nash (Elk Creek), Robert Scharpp (Corning) and Orland's Ben Crain. BJ Martin of Orland took the Mini Modified division by storm, winning nineteen feature events which earned him 1,107 points for the season. Greg Higginbotham (Orland) placed second with 874, followed by Mario Romano with 833; Olin Crain with 763, and Ricky Swigart with 712. In sixth was Orland's Anthony Porter. Chris Compton (Chico) finished seventh. Vinnie Violante of Paradise and Vern Montague of Orland completed the prize winners for the division.
