(MAY 3, 2004 - ORLAND, CA) Kevin Pendergrass clinched his second straight
win for the season Saturday, May 1st, charging to the lead on the second lap
from his seventh place starting position. Kevin was challenged by former track
champion Ken Lewis, but Lewis had nothing for Pendergrass who easily garnered
the win. Lewis finished a solid second, while Ben Crain did the best passing job
of the night, finishing third from eighth place. Elk Creek's Chris Nash placed
fourth in the event, with Chico's Larry Button rounding out the top five.
'03 track champion Wes Dinsmore won his first feature race of the season in
his #4d Pure Stock. Dinsmore had moved into the lead by the fourth lap from his
fourth place starting position. Current point leader Phil shelby of Yuba City
followed Dinsmore nose-to-tail throughout the remainder of the 20-lap event, but
was unable to overtake Wes and the duo finished 1-2 for the night. Trophy Dash
winner Steve Martin garnered third followed by Lee Imhoff and Willows' Richard
Chapman with his best finish of the season.
Mario Romano, another '03 track champion, looked good at the start of the
Mini Truck feature race until a flat tire forced him to pit in the 12th circuit.
Corning's Randy Severson gathered up some speed and took over the lead from Nate
Skaggs by the 14th lap where Severson remained till the checkered flag was
unfurled. Trophy dash winner Sarah Olson started sixth and worked her way up to
third, but was forced to restart at the back of the field after a yellow flag
incident. By the final lap, Sarah had worked her way back up into third
position. Steve Small and Lee Mabe finished 4-5 respectively.
Anthony Porter brought out his #8 Mini Modified for the first time this
season, started the main event in the second row and took the lead by the end of
the second circuit. Mario Romano and BJ Martin each challenged Porter,
exchanging the second position several times for great racing action. Neither
driver could overtake Anthony, so it looked like they'd have to settle for the
second and third positions until Martin encountered mechanical difficulties and
had to pit allowing Greg Higginbotham to take over the third position. Olin
Crain finished in fourth and Ricky Swigart brought home the fifth spot.
In the Wix Sprint Car Series, Scotty Pierson took an early lead in his #3
non-winged carbureted sprint until Chris Webber charged past Pierson for the top
spot. Rob Worthington soon passed Pierson for the second position and stayed on
Webber, finally taking the lead on the 15th circuit. Worthington and Webber were
followed by Billy Garcia, trach champion Josh Jacobo and Don Emery rounded out
the top five.
