GARDNER, WILLIAMS, KIRBY 1-2-3 AT PERRIS!
HEAD FOR VENTURA

by Dick Jordan

OCTOBER 11, 2004...Valvoline USAC/CRA Sprint Car Series point leaders Rip
Williams, Damion Gardner and Mike Kirby continued their torrid battle for the 2004 series championship, taking the top three positions in Saturday night's "Jeff Bagley Classic" at Perris (Calif.) Auto Speedway. Gardner won, followed by Williams and Kirby and they now head for Ventura (Calif.) Raceway for this Saturday night's CRA event on the 1/5-mile dirt. A 30-lap feature is on tap.

Gardner, of Concord, Calif., earned his sixth win in the past nine CRA races, leading the final 23 laps in his Temecula Valley Pipe & Supply/Arizona Race Mart John Boy/Shaver. The win boosted him to second in the standings ahead of Kirby, and only 73 behind Williams. Greg Bragg led the first three laps of Saturday night's Perris feature and Josh Ford led the next four.

The Perris race marked the fifth time this season the series point leaders had combined for a 1-2-3 finish and the fourth time at The PAS! Charles Davis, Jr. and Bragg rounded out the "top-five" at the checkered flag.

Williams and Kirby both have feature wins at Ventura this season, while Gardner has finished fourth and fifth in the two races held there so far. Williams won in May and finished second in September.
