KIRBY ON A HOT STREAK, WINS AT MANZY! |

SEPTEMBER 27, 2004...Mike Kirby of Torrance, Calif. continued his pursuit
of the 2004 Valvoline USAC/CRA Sprint Car championship Saturday night, scoring his third victory in his last four series starts! He led the final 17 laps of the 30-lap feature at Manzanita Speedway in Phoenix, Ariz. in his ITI Performance/Sander Engineering TCR/Downing. Kirby's victory in the 5th Annual Hall of Fame Vintage Classic left him 71 points behind series point leader Rip Williams in the new standings going into an Oct. 9 race at Perris. Fast qualifier Jeremy Sherman finished second in the 30-lap race ahead of Damion Gardner, Rickie Gaunt and Troy Rutherford, while Williams recovered from early-race tire problems to finish seventh. Gardner's finish kept him in the title chase, just eight points behind Kirby going into the Oct. 9 race at Perris, Calif.. Charles Davis, Jr. led 12 of the first 13 laps Saturday before yielding to Kirby's charge.
