AUGUST 30, 2004... The ongoing battle for USAC's 2004 Valvoline CRA
Sprint Car
championship continues this Saturday night at Ventura (Calif.) Raceway and
features the top two finishers from last Saturday night's 30-lap feature at
Perris (Calif.) Auto Speedway.
Damion Gardner of Concord, Calif., sliced Rip Williams' point lead to 42 with
his victory in the Perris 30-lapper. He caught early leader Greg Bragg on the
12th lap and led the rest of the way in his Temecula Valley Pipe &
Supply/Arizona Race Mart John Boy/Shaver. Trailing runner-up Williams at the
checkered flag were Mike Kirby, Peter Murphy and Jordan Hermansader.
This Saturday's race at Ventura offers 74 points, so the point lead is up for
grabs as Williams and Gardner seek their initial USAC driving titles. The
California Ford Focus Midgets also compete at Ventura Saturday, with a 25-lapper
slated. Troy Rutherford escaped injury in a flip on the 26th lap of the Perris
feature.
