Damion Gardner of Concord, Calif. captured Saturday night's 50-lap
"Firecracker 50" presented by Temecula Valley Pipe & Supply and
Vista Paint, closing to within 24 points of Valvoline USAC/CRA Sprint Car point
leader Rip Williams in the process.
Gardner and Williams will now focus on the July 30-31 races at Skagit Speedway
in Alger, Wash., the initial appearance of the series at that 3/10-mile dirt
oval.
Gardner and his Temecula Valley Pipe & Supply/Arizona Race Mart John
Boy/Shaver grabbed the lead from Adam Mitchell on the 20th lap and led the rest
of the way, except for lap 44 when he slipped behind Mike Kirby at the
start/finish line. Kirby ended up second at the checkered flag ahead of Mike
Spencer, Troy Rutherford and Tony Jones.
Williams was the fastest Perris qualifier but finished 15th in Saturday night's
race.
