May
20, 2004 - San Jose, CA. On Saturday, May 29th the California
Asphalt Sprintcar Association will venture across the state line to Carson City
Nevada’s Champion Speedway for the first round a special four race series at
the high-banked quarter-mile paved oval to determine a Nevada State Sprint Car
Champion. Each of the four races will feature a 100-lap main event for the
ground shaking sprint cars.
The sprint car only event will consist of traditional
qualifying, a trophy dash, and a special autograph session in which all CASA
cars and drivers will be presented on the front straight where the fans will be
able to join them on the track. Qualifying will determine heat race lineups and
the main event lineup will be determined by fan activity, which will heavily
favor a complete inversion.
“Pre-race commitments look to have us bring about 20 cars
from California,” said CASA President and CEO, Scott Clough. “And with about
a half dozen Nevada based cars expected to defend their turf, we should put on a
heck of a show for the fans.” Added Clough, “Tahoe, Reno, Carson City race
fans haven’t seen sprint cars for some time now. Everyone I talk with is
really excited about this series.”
Current CASA points leader Matt DeMartini leads the
California contingent over the Sierras and is hopeful his consistent finishes
are a harbinger of a victory in the Silver State. As usual, the rest of the
fiercely competitive CASA stars intend to find their own way to victory lane.
Two-time CASA winner Brian McClish and feature winners Daniel Hood and Nicholas
Rescino also expect success at the high-banked speedway. Many time Carson City
feature winner, and former Reno resident, Mike McCreary’s experience should
have him in the hunt, as well as 2002 Champion Speedway Sprint Car Champion
Glenn Hopper.
Carson City’s Plaza Hotel will be race-central for the
traveling California racers throughout the series and Champion Speedway will
present a laser engraved diamond ring to the 2004 Nevada State Sprint Car
Champion at the series finale on September 18th.
