January
9, 2004 The California Asphalt Sprintcar Association and VirtualThunder.com
have joined forces for the upcoming 2004 campaign. CASA has inked a sponsorship
deal with
New
Hampshire-based VirtualThunder.com president and founder David Crawford to add
the fast growing on-line racing game as an associate sponsor for 2004.
“This is
a great opportunity for two evolving new enterprises to partner together and
help one another along,” said CASA president Scott Clough.
The
exciting fan-based, on-line race prediction game, started in 1999, covers a
multitude of racing series from Nextel Cup to localized series. “The game was
developed for race fans from all over the world to play together and compete
against each other in international, national, touring and local racing action
and enhance their race experience” said Crawford.
VirtualThunder.com
tracked over 14,000 races last season, including CASA, and provides a wide
variety of prizes and awards for their registered players. For
2004, CASA
based awards will be available to those players who “compete” and follow the
second-year sprint car club; wherever they might be from. CASA merchandise may
now be distributed to any corner of the world, but central California players
will be encouraged to attend CASA events in order to collect their prizes.
Fans play
along with the series by making race finishing order predictions for the actual
events. Players score PLACE points for getting an exact match and SHOW points
for a correct pick. And BONUS points are awarded for guessing more than one pick
in the same group. Unlike many other fantasy or pick games, Virtual Thunder
provides many ways to be competitive and allows fans to challenge themselves,
compete in small “Pit Crews” and run against everyone playing.
“CASA
sprinters will carry VirtualThunder.com decals this year and we look forward to
the cross-promotional opportunities that await both partners; this year and in
the years to come.” Summed up Clough, “This should be fun and exiting for
our fans and will help expand our fan-base considerably. Check out
VirtualThunder.com this year and play along.”
