The SCRA has a week off before the next race
and it just happens to be at the raciest little track by the sea,
Ventura Raceway ,on October 18th. Clear your calendar, it will be
the 6th year the Wagsdash is being hosted by Jim Naylor and his
mighty band of track workers. The track we call home is ready to
produce another great evening of racing with a full night of SCRA
racing and the Wagsdash. It is also a day to have fun starting with
the chili feed, the sexy driver contest and pit stop contest, the
racing memorabilia auction and the WRA display of antique speed and
beauty. Yes, it is the place to be this weekend. It all starts
Friday night at Cronies in Ventura, come early and get a good seat!
Cory Kruseman will be here with his Tony Stewart sponsored Mopar
car. Come and see it, the rig is awesome!
The Moose is loose! Tom & Laurie Sertich
are returning to the sprint car wars after a two year layoff to
remodel their home. Tom, a former driver, who now loves to turn the
wrenches, has been off helping others the last few months and says
it’s time to bring out the Moose car that Rusty McClure last
drove. They will have Mike
English in the seat this week and hope they can get off to a
good start!
The Alexander Trucking car, the one that Rickie
Gaunt vacated the seat from a few weeks back, has had several
drivers take turns in the rent a sprinter # 4. Mike
Kirby won in it at the PAS when Super Rickie was off at a
wedding, then Cory Kruseman
won driving it at Ventura and then Perris for three wins in a short
time. Mike English has had two outings in it recently and now guess
who’s back in it? Killer Kirby will sit in the seat for a while as
he has parted with Buzz Shoemaker and that nice crew for now. They
just had too many problems with the 410 car and Mike felt it was
time for a change. He won in the 360 car, but the 410 never lived up
to it’s potential. You might look for Troy Cline in the 410 car in
the near future.
Dean Thompson passed away this past week. His
health has not been the greatest in recent years, but he looked good
the last time we saw him at the PAS a few weeks ago. Our thoughts
are with the family. You can send cards of condolence to the family
at: 25933 Frampton Ave, Harbor City, CA 90710. A memorial event is
being planned for Dean. It will be on November 9th in Torrance.
Further details will be posted when available. Dean's sister,
Barbara, has asked that instead of flowers, remembrances in Dean's
name can be sent to THE NATIONAL SPRINT CAR HALL OF FAME &
MUSEUM, P. O. Box 542, Knoxville, Iowa 50138-0542. A tribute has
been posted on Wagsworld.
For those who heard a rumor that the PAS was
adding lap money to the Oval Nationals purse, it is true. In order
to provide even more money to that big purse, the track is accepting
$100 per lap from anyone wanting to get involved. Since there will
be no more sprint car races at the PAS until the Oval Nationals, you
can call Kim Donner at 909-940-0134 to sign up. Or, if you check
with me, I will have a sign-up sheet with me at the Wagsdash and the
Manzy Western World, (if I go ?), so see me to plunk down $100 and
get recognized in the program, but hurry, time is running out, the
race is November 13/14/15!
Now I have to get on with organizing my plan
for the Wagsdash, or planning my organization of the Wagsdash,
whichever works. I have lots to do. If anyone is bringing things for
the auction, please call and let me know so I can make out the
sheets ahead of time!
Be sure and listen in this week to RSBN.net on
Tuesday night as I will be on there talking about the Wagsdash and
SCRA stuff. Too bad we don’t have our own west coast radio
program, that would be fun.
