San Bernardino, CA., Jul. 2 - Scott
Hansen, a USAC TQ Midget, Midget, Sprint Car and Silver Crown
veteran, scored his fifth NMRA-TQ Midget 25-lap feature victory here
Saturday at the quarter-mile paved Orange Show Speedway. He made his
first start in the No. 55 Dave Lambert Honda that is usually raced
by 2003-04 NMRA driving champion Steve Lambert. Hansen became the
fourth winner in six races this season and moved into tenth place in
current points after competing in just three races.
Round six of the 14-race NMRA season was the
second appearance by NMRA at a paved track. Walt Johnson won the
first NMRA main event at Orange Show on May 14 in round three.
Johnson, aboard the No. 15 Robert & Cynthia Welcomer
Honda-powered car that he built, finished second this time to
Hansen. Michael Bliffen, point leader Jody Bandfield and Bruce
Hiroshima completed the top five finishers and each drove a
self-owned car.
With 11 cars present, West Evans, Steve Parke,
Richard Ortega, Jr., rookie Jenna Bliffen and 2002 NMRA champion
rounded out the top ten. Ron Ahrendt was unable to start. Parke led
the initial lap and Hansen paced the final 24 circuits. Hansen and
Evans won the eight-lap heat races. West set fastest qualifying time
of 13.397 to edge Johnson's 13.406. Bandfield won the trophy dash
from the front row over West, Johnson and M. Bliffen.
Round seven of NMRA's fourth season since it
restarted in 2002 will take place Saturday, July 23 at the
quarter-mile dirt Thunder Bowl Speedway.
