Darland Takes a Soggy One At Manzanita by Ronnie Gardner |

January 31, 2005...Dave Darland toke the Usac/Cra opener leading the last eight
laps to score the Win. Darland driving for former sprint car
driver Dwight Chaney was excited after winning the Manzy opener
for the second year in a row. Young Darren Hagen driving for
Keith Kunz looked to be the in compete control of the 30
lapper till he got together with a lap car Rick Zeihl and
flipped landing on second place Rickie Gaunt taking them both
out of the main event. That gave the lead and the win to Dave
Darland. Second Place went to Charlie Davis Jr and third went to
Mike Spencer.
The night was filled with crashes as only 13 of the original 22 finished the main event. First flip of the night was Damion Gardner who biked in turn 3 and pounded the wall flipped wildly. Then in the B main Peter Murphy slide out of the groove in turn 1 and hit the wall and flipped also involving Damion Gardner. On the second start of the B main Rip Williams and Jeremy Sherman got together and collected Tony Jones and Troy Rutherford after Dan Hillburg got into the back of Rutherford and pushed them right into the crash. In the main event Jesse Hocket flipped in turn two on the second lap of the feature along with Cary Faas in his new ride aboard the Volcano Joe’s coffee car after biking it and hitting the turn one wall. After qualifying was scraped due to time that forced them to use pill draw and passing points to set the field of the Manzy opener Heat winner’s were Mike Spencer, Cary Faas, Dave Darland and Jesse Hocket.
