Session 1:
First year SCRA racer, Damion Gardner scored his fourth victory of
the season at Manzanita, last Saturday night and currently rests in the
runner-up spot in points. Gardner will miss this Saturday’s SCRA Sprint/USAC Midget
double-header, as he journeys east to wheel the Keith Kunz Mopar sprinter at
Terre Haute. We on the left coast
wish Damion well as he takes on new competitors and a new racetrack.
Session 2:
Richard Griffin has a nearly insurmountable lead for the SCRA
championship, ahead of second place by about 350 points.
After a slow start, the team seemed to settle in and scored six
victories, while finishing nearly every race in the top ten.
This is a testament to the work of the crew led by Bruce Bromme Jr.
The Ron Chaffin sprinter has been in the chase all year, with few
problems. It looks like a seventh
owner’s title for Chaffin and a fourth driver’s title for Griffin.
Session 3: Cory
Kruseman will do double duty on Saturday at Perris.
He will be at the wheel of his regular SCRA ride, the #1 Harlan Willis
sprint, crewed by Mike Nigh and will also sit in the Andy Bondio #47 Midget,
which ran so strong at Chili Bowl. Look
for Cory to continue his impressive season, with wins at many venues.
Session 4:
Coming up October 26th, will be the 12th annual WAGSDASH
at Ventura Raceway. This race is a
feature designated for recipients of WAGBUCKS (hard luck bucks) presented
throughout the season to the low budget racers helping them make repairs and
return to action. The purse for
this race is totally fan donated, either through cash donations or through
monies collected from various raffles during the season, along with sales of
WAGSDASH apparel and a race day auction of many items of memorabilia and
photographs. This event is an all
day affair, beginning with a Chili Feed at noon, with sideshows such as “Sexy
Driver Contest” and Pit Crew competition.
The evening brings a complete SCRA program, followed by the thirty-lap
WAGSDASH.
Session 5:
A grassroots group consisting of competitors, fans and interested parties
are forming a political action group (PAC) to Save Ventura Raceway.
Initial goal was stated as getting Ventura Raceway included as part of
any Master Plan for the Seaside Park facility. When
the committee is certified, it will be able to lobby politicians and political
appointees for favorable decisions affecting the Ventura Raceway.
Being certified by the state will also allow this committee to use its
influence in the future to assist other state run facilities in the battle to
save racing in their neighborhoods.
