On
a chilly night in November, we vow to stay home and munch popcorn on Saturday
night. Instead, we start our
Christmas shopping --- would have been less expensive to go racing.
After the holidays, it was a dry spell until Copper World weekend in
Phoenix.
What
a tease!! Just like the groundhog,
we get one trip to Manzy and then six more weeks of winter.
What can you do for a racing fix? Well,
you can make motel reservations for when the racing starts again, or you can go
and survey the new "home" track in Perris.
Finally, Bakersfield rescued us with a USAC show.
Soon, our Saturdays will be hot and heavy, racing in such exotic venues as
Ventura, Santa Maria, Hanford, Bakersfield, Phoenix, and of course Perris.
Once we'll even gamble at Mohave Valley. For about thirty-seven weeks,
all will be well for race fans. We
will endure cold and fog, heat and dust, long lines for beer intake and exhaust,
increased prices for admission and concessions.
Hopefully,
we'll be treated to a long list of winners, with the very popular first timers.
By next November, we may have many new heroes.
Who will be the hot rookie this year?
It appears that we will have a number to select from as we watch the
cream rise to the top. Will one of the wily veterans claim the championship or
will one of the young lions prevail?
As
the season unfolds, all of the above questions will be answered.
By the time we have all these answers, we will be vowing once again to
watch TV and munch popcorn on Saturday night.
