This
was a first visit for nearly all the participants and fans to this venue.
First impression was that the track was a typical small town track in the
agricultural/industrial areas of the Midwest.
Looking racy, it reminded many of a larger Ventura or a small Hanford.
There was no guardrail at the crest of the bank in the corners, so it
allowed for those getting too high on the bank to drop over the edge and
recover. The track surface looked
pretty good on arrival, but my one concern was the low guardrail, where a
flipping car could easily exit the facility.
Thirty
cars were on hand, with Damion Gardner setting the fast time at 13.042.
The four heats found Yeley, Kruseman, Graham and Griffin emerging as the
winners. Mike English captured the
Dash and SuperRickie claimed the Semi. The
feature found Mike Kirby making one of his patented charges to secure his first
tour win, followed by Yeley, Rutherford, Elliott and Kruseman.
This was race number six and we have had six different winners,
everything in accordance with the Master Plan.
Something
that makes this track unique is that it sets between two railroad tracks and all
evening, trains were passing by either side, blowing their whistles.
Reminded me of Ventura, but more intense, as the tracks were much closer.
The
fans here are very supportive, as we had a near full house on a Wednesday night
and many seemed to be well informed about racing.
I believe this could be another venue that would be worth visiting again.
