Saturday
in Pennsylvania meant a visit to Lincoln Speedway, near New Oxford.
This track has been the home of some heated battles among the PA POSSE.
CRA ran here in 1993 and this was the first visit for most of the current
traveling band.
Twenty-six cars were present
including five PA regulars. Cory
Kruseman set fast time at 15.970. There
were three heat races with Gremett, Spencer and Rutherford grabbing the
victories, all from the front row, with some heated battles for the last
transfer positions. Rickie Gaunt
prevailed over Tony Elliott in the Dash and Mike Kirby claimed the Semi over
Adam Mitchell and Levi Jones.
In the feature, Elliott
immediately jumped into the lead from his outside front row starting spot.
He ran free and clear, as those behind him encountered a few tangles.
Local driver, Johnny Mackinson made an impressive run, following behind
Elliott until biking in turn three and flipping against the wall. In the meantime, Griffin was advancing from his sixth
starting position, but still trailing Elliott and encountering lapped traffic.
Now what is wrong with this
picture? Richard Griffin known as a
high flying racer running up against the cushion was hooked up on the bottom and
making his charge. Conversely,
Elliott an accomplished “huggypole” racer was up on top and running flat
out. These two put on a performance
that had the crowd excited with head to head racing for a number of laps.
Eventually, lapped traffic played a part and allowed Griffin to get under
Elliott and slingshot into the lead on the last lap.
The Pennsylvania fans had witnessed racing, as we know
it on a regular basis in California. They
seemed pleased with the product and cruised the pits afterward, acquiring
autographs and apparel from the West Coast visitors
