Wingless Sprint Cars, Dirt Modifieds, Mini Sprints,
Hobby Stocks and Mini Stocks

Pueblo San Felipe, NM..Oct 8....Jesse Baker from Grants won Saturday night's NMMRA wingless sprint car feature at Hollywood Hills Speedway with Nick Rael second ahead of Bo Baker. Aztec Speedway regular J J Harpole controlled the dirt modified feature as Mark McClarran ran second ahead of Rick Boelter. With division dominator Derrick Ortega racing at Canyon Raceway in Arizona, rookie Jordan Mattson won the mini sprint main event after female charger Jennifer Greenberg broke leading. Randy Smith ran second ahead of Jim Massey. Phil York drove to wins in both his heat and the feature in the hobby stocks and the two Aztec cars outraced the Sandia Speedway pavement cars in the mini stock action with Zach Rouse winning in front of David Whiteker. Perry Held led the pavement group with a heat win and a third in the feature.

With some of the cars running a conflicting date in Clovis NM, the NMMRA wingless sprint cars divided 17 cars into a pair of heat races. The top point averages all ran in heat 2 and B Baker won that race over Johnny Herrera, Kelly Dennison and J C Powell Jr. Last week's feature winner Jason Tanner was last in heat 2. Kristi Smith was a wire to wire winner in heat 1 over Rael, Jeff Brumfield Jr and Paul Whitehead. J Baker was 7th in heat 1, but raced to the feature win after Herrera was sidelined while leading in a tangle with Whitehead. J Baker finished in front of Rael, B Baker, Dennison, Jon Taylor, Ronnie Smith, K Smith, Larry Stoerkel, Brumfield and Steve Copeland in the feature. The other 7 starters failed to finish including Tanner.

With only Clovis and Hollywood Hills still racing among the state's dirt tracks, the dirt modifieds pulled in a 19 car field and also used a two heat format. Butch Reid Sr won the first heat ahead of Bo Martinez, Harpole and Steven Bertetto. Boelter won heat 2 in front of Richard Johnson and Taylor Yazzie. Martinez was a feature scratch and Johnson had a flat tire while leading before Harpole raced to the win in front of California transplant McClarran, Boelter, Ron Frazier Jr, Reid Sr, Gallup's Donny Carey, Mike O'Neal and Kenny Wheeler. Ten starters failed to finish. The 11 mini sprints all raced in a single heat race and Jackson Cerklewski was the heat winner over Randy Smith, John Massey and Jim Massey. Greenberg ran sixth in the heat race behind Mattson, but charged from 10th into the lead in the feature before breaking. Mattson drove to the win in front of Randy Smith, Jim Massey, Brian Perea, John Massey, Cerklewski, Mathew Cordova and Jerry Higgenbotham. Only Greenberg, Jerill Higgenbotham and Cody Mansfield failed to finish. The hobby stock count dropped to 12 cars and York won heat 1 over Glenn Jaramillo and Paul Jenicek. Jeff Whyman got to drive Thomas Hayes car in heat 2 and he won ahead of Curt Neff and Randall Trujillo. York was the feature winner ahead of Trujillo, Jenicek, Hayes, C Neff, first time dirt racer Roger Frakes, Jaramillo, Staci March and Monte Neff. Rouse and Whiteker also finished 1-2 in the first heat for the mini stocks with Tom Melloy third. Held beat Larry Johnson and Henry Anderson in heat 2. Rouse and Whiteker dominated the feature run with Held third ahead of Bobby Sandy, Melloy, Rod Martinez, Allen Fisk and Andrew Frowner Jr. Both Johnson and Anderson failed to finish.

The dirt late models, dirt modifieds, hobby stocks and mini sprints race on Oct 15 and the season closes with a twilight Sunday show on Oct 23 featuring the wingless sprint cars, dirt late models, dirt modifieds, street stocks, mini sprints and mini stocks.
