(August 19, 2006- Chowchilla, CA)...Gotelli Speed Shop's
Dave Press of Foster City prevailed to capture the twenty five lap
feature win on Saturday August 19 at Chowchilla Speedway. Press
passed front row starter Dan Simpson on lap eleven and dominated the
remainder of the race with a smooth line around the well prepared
1/3 mile track. Press was followed to the checkers by Ramos Oil's
Gary Koster, Ed Amador, RJB Engines' Jerry Cisco and
West Sacramento
's Phil Peddlar.
Since many Wingless Sprint divisions at other tracks have completed
their season point races, the fifth dual club show between the CSRA
and NCMA added several new teams to the Chowchilla roster. Twenty
one Wingless Spec Sprints raced on Saturday night including
newcomers Nick Green from San Jose, Dan and Daniellle Simpson from
Rio Vista, and Madera's Keith Cantrell.
Three heat races ran, with Craig's Muffler Alan Clark of
Santa Rosa
taking the first win from a pole start. He led flag to flag and was
chased to the checkers by Dave Press and Gary Koster. Pole starter
Ramos Oil's Jimmy Lavell of
Brentwood
was the surprised victor in heat two. Richard Harvey Jr. led the
first seven laps with a 1/2 lap lead on the field, but had motor
issues on the last lap which gave Lavell the win. Larry Nelson and
Ed Amador finished second and third.
DES
's Dan Simpson won heat three from a front row start and was
followed by David Goodwill and Moelller Brothers' Nick Green. Pole
starter Goodwill won the six lap trophy dash followed by Dave Press
and Dan Simpson.
The twenty five lap feature began with Press and Dan Simpson on the
front row. Simpson took the point with Press, Larry Nelson, and
Goodwill on his tail. On lap two Nelson took a wild ride with his
car flipping down the front straight. He was unharmed but done for
the night. Simpson led the restart with Press, Goodwill and Koster
in tow. A good battle was shaping up mid pack as twelfth starting
Shipherd vaulted into the fifth spot followed by Amador, Hammond,
Jake Serven and Jerry Cisco. Press hammered into the lead on lap
eleven. A lap thirteen spin by Goodwill collected Shipherd and
Goodwill was unable to continue. Simpson slowed and pitted with a
flat as Press continued his dominant run at the front. Several
yellows for spins slowed the tempo and a lap twenty red for a
Cantrell flip stopped the action. Cantrell was all right but his car
was severely damaged. At the checkers it was Dave Press bringing
home his first Chowchilla win. Gary Koster, Ed Amador, Jerry Cisco
and Phil Peddlar rounded out the top five. Kudos to hard chargers
Cisco, Serven, and Shipherd who finished fourth, sixth and seventh,
respectively.
As always, a special thanks to Tom and Cindy Sagmilller and their
crew for a great track and their hospitality. The CSRA Wingless
Sprints race again on August 26 at Marysville, and return to
Chowchilla on Saturday, September 16 for the final point race of the
season. Drive safe, have fun and take care. We'd also like to ask
that you please keep our beloved crew member Pete Ogden in your
thoughts and prayers. Pete is in the hospital and seriously ill.
