Marrs won the 20 lap feature at Twin Cities’ ¼ mile track on
Saturday May 20 from a second row start to make the pass on pole
starter Shannon Newton on lap 4. RJB Engines’
Newton
held on to the second spot and was followed to the checkers by
Golden Bear Alarm’s Ryan McDaniel and
ART
Enterprises’ Rick Eversult.
Seventeen Wingless Sprints made up the field and ran two clean heat
races.
Newton
won the first heat from a pole start with Contra Costa Auto Parts’
Keith Shipherd on his tail, followed by Jeremy Hawes, Patco
Trucking’s Jake Serven, and Blain Varner Jr. Heat two ran flag to
flag with Eversult taking the win. Charlie Marrs, McDaniel, Tony
Richards and Kevin Sprague rounded out the top 5.
The Spec Sprint teams welcomed new driver Jeff Olschowka from
Marysville in his first race ever in a Wingless Sprint. He wisely
started in the rear, held his line and had fun. Orland’s Tony
Richards, his own car not yet race ready, was driving Doug
Butterfield’s car for the evening. An improvement added to the
track was new lighting in the staging area, courtesy of Tim Sherman
and Valley Rents.
The Wingless Sprints were the last feature to run on a full five
division program honoring Sherm Toller, and the track was slick and
very dusty. With a zero invert pill drawn for the lineup, heat
winners
Newton
and Eversult were grid in row 1.
Newton
throttled into point at the green but the action was slowed for a
spun car on lap 3. On the restart Marrs made the pass to the front.
Many yellow flag laps ensued with the dry slick track challenging
everyone, but remarkably there were no accidents. Marrs kept a tight
line down low with
Newton
and McDaniel on his tail and skillfully protected his lead. At the
checkers it was Marrs bringing it home and
Newton
, McDaniel, Hawes and Eversult rounding out the top 5. Drive safe,
