Pleasant Hill, Ca...July 31... The 5th race in the NCMA West
Coast Select Series will be at Watsonville Speedway's 1/4 mile track
on Friday, August 13. The earlier series race in May was the first return of the Spec Sprints to Watsonville in 5 years, teams were given a warm welcome, and the tacky track conditions made for some spectacular open wheel racing. Round 4 of the series was on July 10 at Reno-Fernley's 3/8 mile track, where NCMA's David Goodwill took the feature win and swept the show. The May race at Watsonville was won by All-Pro's Darrell Hanestad of Clayton. Oakhurst's Doug Gandy, another NCMA driver, was the victor at Chowchilla Speedway in April, and Twin Cities Speedway driver Tim Sherman of Citrus Heights won the 1st round in March at Bakersfield Speedway. The 6th and final race of the series will be at Chowchilla Speedway on Saturday, September 11. The current series point leader is Modesto's Ed Amador, who has consistently finished in the top 5 in each series race. Napa's David Goodwill sits only 40 points behind in 2nd, and Keith Shipherd of Pleasant Hill trails him by 2 points. Concord's Burt Siverling and Jimmy Lavell of Brentwood round out the top 5. With 2 races left, the championship is still up for grabs. The champion will be awarded $1000.00 from a special point fund, 2nd place gets $500.00, and 3rd will receive $250.00. This point fund will increase as additional sponsorship is obtained. The individual races are are regular NCMA purse amounts with a guarantee that any driver that takes the green for hot laps receives $100.00, less a $15.00 fee for non members. There will be additional CL Bryant fuel awards, as well. This series is open to all Spec Sprints following NCMA rules, and membership is not required. Teams are encouraged to experience racing at Watsonville Speedway and have fun competing for a championship title.
