(May 15, 2004- Tracy, CA)...Alum-Line's Pat Ariaz captured
double feature wins on Saturday, May 15 for Altamont Raceway
Park's double dash and double main night. In the
1st feature Ariaz took the lead from J & J Dairy's Ed Amador
when Amador cautiously slowed for lapped traffic. Amador chased
Ariaz to the checkers giving him several challenges, and was
followed by front row starter John Silva of Tracy.
This was the NCMA Sprints' 1st experience using the transponders for
qualifying and scoring at Altamont, and the special race
format for the evening used qualifying times for all of the race
lineups, with the 1st feature starting straight up and the 2nd
completely inverted. Ariaz won the 1st dash from a pole start. The
2nd dash was a thrill to see as
Amador Farms' Steve Amador took home his 1st trophy dash win
at Altamont. On the last lap of the dash, Patterson's Don Hicks
charged hard to challenge Amador and hit the water filled barrels
located in front of the inside track wall. Both the driver and the
car were all right, but the barrels didn't fare so well.
Ed Amador and Dan's Racer Safety John Silva began the 1st feature on
the front row. Amador got a healthy lead at the green followed by
Ariaz from his 2nd row spot. By lap 10, the leaders were in lapped
traffic, and as Amador cautiously slowed, Ariaz dove under him to
take the lead. Amador made several attempts to challenge Ariaz, but
could not overtake him. The 2nd feature had Z & Z Racing's
Michael Zarevich and Steve Amador on the front row, with Amador
driving hard into the lead and holding it for half of the race.
Ariaz took the lead and the win with Steve Amador and Don Hicks
rounding out the top three.
Since this traveling club is indeed a racing family, one of the
highlights of the night was the return of NCMA's Secretary and
Treasurer, Kas Wullenwaber, who was the most enthusiastic fan in the
stands after her long absence while she was hospitalized. The happy
Wullenwabers are expecting their first child next month. Another
positive note was the engagement announcement of Head Official Eddie
Cooley and his girlfriend Joan. The NCMA travels next to the quick
1/4 mile paved track at Lakeport Speedway on Saturday, May 22. Drive
safe, have fun, and take care.
