             April 22,
            2006 - Stockton, CA. …Displaying
the form that has netted him four career USAC driving championships,
Tony Hunt won the 50-lap USAC Western / CASA sprint car feature
event at Stockton 99 Speedway Saturday evening. Under rain
threatening sky, Hunt drove a patient yet aggressive race in running
his Alan Kaiser Eagle #4 from the eleventh starting position to the
            front.
"This feels really good", said Hunt
immediately following the event. "I am happy for Alan (Kaiser).
The Thompson Toyota, MPD car was working where I could run high or
low." Hunt then thanked the fans and declared his intention to
pursue championship number five in 2006. "Our commitment to our
sponsors is to try to reclaim the USAC Western Sprint Car
            title."
Pole-sitter Greg Anderson rebounded from a heat
race incident to lead the opening 36 laps despite front-end damage
to his Naake Shocks #2. Anderson fought a wicked 'push' in his racer
to lead until lap 38 in turn two when the car jumped sideways on
him. "Because of the rain threat, we didn't have time to get
our front axle assembly changed between the heat race and the
feature", said Anderson. "I couldn't believe I led the
race that long because really I was fighting the car at each
            end."
The Anderson spin handed the lead to Matt
DeMartini. 1998 USAC Western Sprint champion Jeff Gardner was
running second with Hunt behind him. Hunt passed Gardner low in turn
three to grab the runner-up spot on lap 44. The winning pass came
three laps later, low in turn four, as Hunt relegated DeMartini to
runner-up. On lap 48 DeMartini - who had lost the power steering in
his Ric Carr Racing #6, contacted Gardner's #51 sending Gardner
around. The caution flag for the turn two spin sent Gardner to the
            rear.
The final two laps were without incident as
Hunt won followed by DeMartini, Nick Rescino Jr., Mike Murgoitio,
and the highest finishing rookie Bradley Galedrige.  Sixth
through tenth were rookie Jimmy Pelk, Nick Green, Danny Ebberts,
            Kody Swanson, and Brian Geiszler.
            Murgoitio out-qualified the 24-car field with a
            13.213 clocking on the quarter-mile.
