Bumgarner Extends Points Lead with Tucson USAC Western States Sprint Win |

Bumgarner
started the 40-lap feature in the eighth position, and steadily
moved his way through the pack. Greg Anderson led the opening eleven
laps on the 3/8's-mile paved oval. With racing as hot as the dessert
temperatures, McClish took command on lap 12 and looked to be a sure
winner until Bumgarner closed in and wrestled the lead away coming
off turn four as the two raced for the checkered flag. Lewis was the
night's fastest qualifier, turning a lap in the Western Speed Racing
#40 at 14.461 seconds. His Western Speed teammates, Tony Hunt, and
McClish swept the top three spots in time trials. McClish won the
fast dash, while Taylor and Anderson took heats. Hunt did not
start the feature after a heat race incident that saw him suffer a
stuck throttle in his #60. A hard impact with the wall resulted in
the car scratching for the rest of the program. Destiney Hays
encountered motor problems and also did not race the feature. With the win,
Bumgarner stretched his points lead to 42 points over 2003 Champion,
Lewis. Next up for the colorful and fast USAC Western States
non-wing sprinters is a trip to Tenino Summary:
