Perris, CA -August 13, 2000--Ken Coulston from
LaQuinta gained the lead when Kent Rosevear crashed and won the main
event for the Bandit unwinged 360 sprint cars at Perris Auto Speedway
Saturday night. With his home track in Ventura dark for their county
fair, Greg Taylor joined the Perris action and finished a very close
second to Coulston with Yuma's Mike Martin third. Martin had won the
previous Bandit feature at the track. Defending track champion Rick
Arringdale from Hesperia won the 20 lap main for the street stocks
with Steve Stewart second as point leader Luke Dodd rebounded from his
broken motor at the previous race to run third.
The 13 car unwinged 360 sprint car field included just 2 members of
the top 20 in the Bandit point standings. Arizona female ace Kaylene
Verville became the first woman to win a sprint car race at Perris
with her victory in heat 1. Ron Williams got upsidedown while leading
heat 2. They had to cut the cage from his car to remove him, but he
was talking and concious when they transported him to the hospital.
Bandit point leader A J Burgin won that heat. In the feature, former
Yuma IMCA Modified ace Kent Rosevear paced the majority of the race
before he stopped in turn 2 and was hit hard by Burgin. Rosevear was
done, but Burgin changed a tire and tagged the field. Coulston
inherited the lead and fought off the challenges of the 18 year old
Taylor for the win. Martin was third ahead of Verville and Burgin.
In the street stock 20 lapper, Arringdale was trailed at the
checkered flag by Stewart, Dodd, David Gilliland and track title
hopeful Henry Wesolowski Sr.
