Perris, CA -July 8, 2000--A regular with the Arizona
unwinged 360 sprint car series, former Yuma Speedway street stock ace
Mike Martin won a drag race with Bandit Sprint Car series point leader
A J Burgin from Selma to win Saturday nights 20 lap feature at Perris
Auto Speedway in a photo finish. Defending track street stock champion
Rick Arringdale fell out of this years title fight when he missed a
couple early season races, but he drove to victory this week ahead of
Steve Stewart.
The Bandit unwinged 360 sprint cars had just a 12-car field, but
they towed from several locations. Burgin had taken the lead on lap 3,
but Martin was providing the pressure. Martin was able to pull
alongside Burgin as they came off turn 4 for the final time. Martin
won the drag race to the checkered flag by the narrowest of margins.
Will Perkins from Hesperia was third ahead of Oranges Ron Williams and
Phoenix, AZ long tow Mickey Meyers. Veteran racer Rick Becker was
treated and released from the hospital with a broken rib after he
flipped in turn 2.
The Ramona Tire sponsored street stock series saw Victorville's
Arringdale the winner ahead of Steve Stewart, Henry Wesolowski Sr,
Jeff Dunham and Vince Willis. Luke Dodd is the runaway point leader in
the class with a 40-point margin over Wesolowski. Ron Warkentin Jr is
third in points ahead of Tim Shadduck. Arringdale has climbed back to
fifth in points, just two ahead of Rusty Stewart.
