Perris, CA -May 13, 2000--The Bandit unwinged 360
sprint cars paid their first year 2000 visit to the big half-mile clay
oval at Perris Auto Speedway and series point leader A J Burgin from
Selma in Central California was the feature winner.
David Jackson from Victorville has had a season of ups and downs in
the Currie Enterprises Champ Truck class, but the former street stock
star was Saturday night's main event winner. With the win, he moved
past Cary Cecil into fifth in points. Defending track champion Rick
Arringdale from Victorville has had a tough season, missing events for
both illness and engine woes, but he took advantage of a late race
flat for Butch Gilliland to win the 20 lap street stock main.
As usual, the uwinged 360 sprint car action drew a variety of cars
when they visited Perris. Bandit Series regular Burgin won with Barona
Speedway racer Ken Coulston in second ahead of Bandit racer Josh
Davis, who towed from Atascadero. Dave Knott was fourth and Ventura
Raceway rookie Richard Reinken rounded out the top 5.
Jackson was chased to his Champ Truck win by second ranked point
racer Dino Napier, veteran Cap Pidgeon, Riverside's Jack Dodd and San
Diego's John Miller. The late race flat tire for Butch Gilliland saw
him exit on the final lap and his son David Gilliland had been
sidelined early in the night with engine woes. Arringdale inherited
the lead and won with newcomer John Calley in second ahead of former
track champion Steve Stewart, veteran Henry Wesolowski and Ron
Warkentin Jr.
