Perris, CA -July 24, 1999--Fast timer Danny Sheridan
from Santa Maria grabbed the lead from SCRA star Mike Kirby on lap 9
and won Saturdays night Bandit unwinged 360 sprint car feature at
Perris Auto Speedway. Sheridan is the defending champion for the tour,
but fell from point contention early in 1999 when he elected to run
several conflicts IMCA sprint car races.
Returning from missing the previous race to attend a wedding, David
Gilliland won the PASSCAR street stock feature in front of Jeff Digby.
Sheridan posted fast time for the Bandit sprint cars with his
17.252 lap and heat winners were Kirby and A J Burgin. Kirby was
driving a new house car for Hanford's Stinger Chassis Company.
Arizonas Mickey Meyer Jr ran second to Burgin. Clark Templeman III led
early in the feature, but broke leading on lap 6. Kirby gained the
lead, but Sheridan made his winning pass exiting turn 4 on lap 9.
Second fast timer Jarrett Chaney, the winner of the earlier Bandit
race on the Perris schedule, climbed to a second place finish. Kirby
dropped out while dueling Meyer for third. Danny Ent got around Meyer
late to finish third and Meyer was fourth ahead of fellow Arizona
racer Breck Higgins. It was Meyers first run on the 1/2 mile clay oval
and his effort was crew chiefed by brother-in-law Bob Ream Jr, who
dominates the Arizona unwinged 360 scene. They were 21 sprint cars on
hand and a pair of Yuma, AZ based former stock car racers Mike Martin
and Kent Rosevear, both had top ten runs.
Gilliland was followed in the street stock feature by Digby, Ron
Warkentin Jr, point leader Rick Arringdale and Chad Burns.
